2 pounds of goat meat (preferably boneless and skinless)
1 tablespoon of olive oil (or coconut oil)
3 large carrots, peeled and chopped
2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 cup of peas (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup of green beans, chopped
1/4 cup of spinach, chopped (optional)
1/4 cup of pumpkin puree (optional)
4 cups of low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth (ensure no added salt or seasoning)
1 teaspoon of turmeric powder (optional, for its anti-inflammatory properties)
1 teaspoon of ginger powder (optional, for digestion)
1/4 teaspoon of sea salt (optional, or omit for dogs with salt-sensitive conditions)
Instructions
Prepare the Goat Meat and Vegetables:
Prep the Meat: Begin by cutting the goat meat into small, bite-sized pieces. If you’re using bone-in meat, make sure to remove the bones before cutting it into pieces.
Prepare the Vegetables: Peel and chop the carrots and sweet potatoes into small cubes. Chop the green beans into small pieces, and if using fresh spinach, chop it into bite-sized portions.
Optional Step – Prepare Pumpkin Puree: If you’re using fresh pumpkin, cook it by steaming or baking until soft, then puree it with a blender or food processor. Alternatively, you can use canned pumpkin puree, ensuring it’s pure and free of any additives.
Cook the Goat Stew:
Sauté the Meat: In a large stockpot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the goat meat and sauté it for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Stir occasionally to ensure the meat is evenly cooked.
Add the Vegetables: Add the carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, and peas to the pot with the cooked goat meat. Stir to combine the ingredients.
Add Broth and Seasonings: Pour in the low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth, ensuring the ingredients are covered. Stir in the turmeric, ginger, and a pinch of sea salt, if using. If you want to include spinach and pumpkin puree, add those ingredients now.
Simmer the Stew: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally. The stew is done when the vegetables are tender and the flavors have melded together.
Let the Stew Cool and Serve:
Cool the Stew: Once the stew is finished, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving. This ensures it’s safe for your dog to eat and prevents any burns.
Serve and Store: Portion out the stew into appropriate servings based on your dog’s size and appetite. You can serve it immediately, or store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For longer storage, you can freeze individual portions for up to 3 months.
